Membership

The Alabama State FOP states that a certified federal, state, county, or municipal law enforcement officer in Alabama may enjoy membership, which includes the local, state, and national lodges. National rules describe eligibility for regularly appointed or elected, full-time law enforcement officers. Each subordinate lodge is the judge of its membership. No person is denied membership on account of race, religion, color, creed, sex, age, or national origin.

The State Lodge processes new-member applications and then works through the local lodge. The State site notes that no fee is due at the time of application. Lodge 34 will explain local dues when you inquire.

Active members

Intended for full-time sworn officers with arrest authority who serve in or around Eufaula and Lake Eufaula. Active members vote in this lodge, elect lodge officers, and take part in the programs the membership directs.

Retired officers

The National FOP leaves retired-officer rules to each lodge. Write Lodge 34 for the current practice.

Associate members

The Fraternal Order of Police Associates (FOPA) is the civilian affiliate of the FOP. Associates are friends and families of officers, business and professional people, and other citizens who will devote time to assisting law enforcement. Their published purpose is to increase understanding of officers’ rights, duties, and problems; to foster respect for them; and to better the conditions under which they serve.

Associate work commonly includes public support of the parent lodge, help with charity and youth programs, scholarships where offered, aid when the lodge undertakes it, awards, and joint social events. Selected National courtesy programs may be open to associates under vendor rules. Associates do not vote as sworn members and have no police authority.

FOP Auxiliary

Adult family members of FOP members may look to the Fraternal Order of Police Auxiliary. Ask whether a local auxiliary is active.
